Digital workflow in focus at CineGear

Two-day event opens Friday at the Universal backlot

Production workflow might not sound like the sexiest topic, but as digital developments continue to impact filmmaking, it's poised to be the most discussed subject at CineGear Expo 2008.

The two-day event opens Friday at the Universal Studios backlot in Universal City.

"Workflow will be big because people are really starting to respect what it is," said director of photography Daryn Okada, who serves as president of the American Society of Cinematographers. "There have been enough individual projects where the filmmakers started and then discovered deficiencies in the workflow."

The industry is working together to create smooth production workflows in the digital age, which includes those working in production, post, color management, metadata and archiving.

"There is a great responsibility to creating images that will be lasting," Okada said.

Director of photography Steven Poster, who is national president of Local 600, agreed. "It's critical to the image," he said. "Our job is to learn and to teach."

CineGear will feature about 200 production technology exhibits, including film and digital cameras, recording devices, cranes, lighting and other technology and accessories.

The program will include a preview of "The Dark Knight," from director Christopher Nolan and director of photography Wally Pfister, and a tribute to director of photography William Fraker on the 40th anniversary of Fraker-lensed "Rosemary's Baby."

Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown will receive a lifetime achievement award.

CineGear last year attracted 8,000 attendees.

Kate Hudson: Let People Speculate

Kate Hudson has not denied recent speculation that she's dating champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, but rather has said she'll "let people speculate" about her love life for fear of having things "taken out of context."

During an interview on Ryan Seacrest's Los Angeles breakfast radio show, Hudson was asked about the rumors and fired back, "I don't discuss my personal life."

Hudson, who has been linked to string of men since her break-up with husband Chris Robinson, added, "My main priority in my life is my son and the number one thing I've learned is to discuss [these] things only causes more problems and more words taken out of context. Everything is always misconstrued and it's always better to just let people speculate."

The couple have been seen together on a number of occasions, with reports of the couple kissing during a Dolce and Gabbana party at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

Nicole Kidman: “I’ve had severe morning sickness”

Nicole Kidman has revealed she’s suffering from “severe morning sickness.”
“I’ve had severe morning sickness,” the pregnant actress, 40, told Access Hollywood on Monday — when she and her country music star husband Keith Urban hit the red carpet at the CMT Awards in Nashville.
The ‘Stepford Wives’ star, who was sporting a figure-hugging red dress that showed off her expanding baby bump, also admitted to wondering if the most difficult part is yet to come.
